  • Seniors: do not forget about the scholarship applications that are available on the Counselors Office section of the school website. If you need help getting applications, please talk to Mrs. Merickel ASAP. The Houston Scholarship packet is now due in less than two weeks.

  • Just Write has announced the state participants. Houston’s Division One team (9th and 10th grade) came in 8th as a team and three of the five have been invited to state – Brodie Nishwitz, Abi Hickerson, and Rory DeLong. Our Division Two team (11th and 12th) came in 4th as a team! Four of the six have qualified for state – Kyleigh Gardner, Maddy Wills, Grace Rader and Gideon Dienhart.
Friday Morning Announcements (2-26-21)
  • In honor of FFA Week, here is your FFA fact of the day: FFA began in 1928. The FFA started in Kansas City, where the first national convention was held with 33 delegates from 18 states participating. The Houston FFA Chapter would like to thank everyone who participated in the activities this week.
  • Today is the last day to sign up for Cheerleading, please stop by the office by the end of the day to sign up. If you are trying out for cheerleading and are also in the HS play, please contact coach Sherman- you will find her contact information in the tryout packet.

  • Roll the dice will meet today after school.

  • In honor of FFA Week, here is your FFA fact of the day: The blue corduroy jacket has been the official dress since 1933. All blue jackets are made in Ohio. More than 50,000 blue jackets are made each year in Van Wert, Ohio.

  • In honor of FFA Week, here is your FFA fact of the day: FFA is not just for farmers. 10% of members nationwide live in urban areas, and 19% live in small towns. Over 75% of students who take classes at Houston High School are in FFA, and only 15% of our members live on a farm.

  • Juniors will take the ACT today. Testing will take place in the Math classrooms on the second floor. Please bring two regular pencils with you. A reminder that students will return to class after lunch, including those students who attend the UVCC. The stairwell at the end of the HS Hallway will be closed due to ACT testing. All students must use the center stairwell. All students with lockers from Mr. Barlage and Mr. Hausfeld’s room to the end of the hallway will not be able to go to the lockers once testing begins.

  • In honor of FFA Week, here is your FFA fact of the day: Each year the National FFA Convention is one of the largest student conventions in the world. Almost 80,000 members attend each year, taking more than 125 hotels in the Indianapolis area to house them.

  • Congratulations to the members of our Just Write division one and two teams who competed in this year’s regional competition. While the complete list of students moving on to state has not been released yet, we have two writers that will definitely be invited as they ranked among the top 15 of more than 80 writers in their division. Madelyn Wills earned 15th and Grace Rader earned 12th. Great job, team!
