Junior High Girls Basketball Games Against Fairlawn

The Junior High Girls Basketball game against Fairlawn that was cancelled on Saturday January 14th has been rescheduled for Thursday January 26th at Fairlawn starting at 5:00 PM.

High School Girls Basketball Games at Mississinawa Valley

There will now be a JV girls game when the high school girls basketball team travels to Mississinawa Valley on Monday February 6th. The JV game will start at 5:30 PM.

Athletic Boosters Raffle

The Houston Athletic Boosters are raffling off a set of three signed photographs of Archie Griffin, Jerry Lucas, and Jack Nicklaus. The framed photographs are 42" by 25.5." The drawing will be held at halftime of the the Varsity Boys game against Jackson Center on Friday, February 17th. Winner does not need to be present to win. Tickets are $10.00 each and can be purchased at the concession stand during all home games or by sending payment along with name, address, and phone number to:

Homecoming 2017

Friday, January 27th, the 2017 Homecoming Show will take place in the high school gym at 6:00 PM before the Junior Varsity and Varsity basketball boys take on Fairlawn.
The Crown Bearers are second graders Aubrey Bodenmiller and Joey LeistHouston’s freshman attendants are Brooke Duncum and Joshua Langenkamp. Sophomore attendants are Addie White and Ethan Knouff. Junior attendants are Morgan Ely and Benjamin Lively. Houston’s Queen Candidates include Kaitlyn Ellison, Allie Voisard, and Ashtyn York. King Candidates include Isaiah Beaver, Devyn Ostrander, and Tristin Stangel. 
The Homecoming dance, “A Night at the Theater”, will take place in the commons area on Saturday, January 28th from 8:00 to 11:00 PM for Houston High School students and their dates. Tickets for the dance will go on sale on Tuesday January 17th. Tickets are $7.00 each and can be purchased in the office from Mrs. Merickel. Students must purchase tickets at school no later than Friday January 27, as there will be no tickets sold at the door. Students wishing to bring a date from another school must complete a guest form which is available in the office. Guest forms are due by Tuesday January 24.

Spring Sports Preseason Meeting

Houston High School will hold the spring sports preseason informational meeting on Monday, February 13th at 6:00 PM in the commons. The Ohio High School Athletic Association requires the Houston High School Athletic Department to hold preseason informational meetings for parents and athletes in grades 7-12. A parent and athlete are only required to attend one of these meetings per school year. If a parent and athlete attended the fall or winter meeting, the parent and athlete do not have to attend the spring meeting. Please mark your calendars and plan accordingly. Again, this is a mandatory meeting and your child’s participation will be declined until the requirement is met.

Geography Bee

Hardin-Houston Local School held their Geography Bee on Thursday, January 12th. 8th grader Gustav Gothberg was the winner and 8th grader Collin Walker was 1st runner-up. Congratulations gentlemen!

Senior Slideshow

Seniors, it's time to start bringing in senior pictures, baby pictures, and other pictures for the senior slideshow. Pictures can be dropped off in Mr. Brown’s computer lab whether they are hard copy or digital copies. Any pictures that can be sent in digitally (on a CD, flash drive, camera, or email) will be greatly appreciated since scanning the pictures takes up the most time. If you bring in hard copies of the pictures, please write your name on the back so they can be returned to you. Please turn in your pictures on time as no late pictures will be accepted unless you have spoken to Mr. Brown first. There are multiple deadlines for pictures and they are listed below. For more information about the senior slideshow, contact Mr. Brown at the school either by email ( or by phone (937) 295-3010 ext 2013.

  • Baby Pictures and non-senior year candid pictures by January 12th
  • Fall Sports pictures by January 12th

Engraved Brick Pavers

Hardin-Houston Local School is currently selling personalized engraved paver bricks to residents, alumni and local businesses. The 4" X 8" pavers will be placed at the front entrance of the new building. The personalization may include your name, company name, recognition of military service, or in memory of loved ones. There will be approximately thirteen hundred pavers available, sold on first come, first serve basis. Door Decorating Contest

The Junior High and High School Student Council held a Holiday Door Decorating Contest this December. There were three categories in which the entries competed.  The winners:

Spelling Bee

Hardin-Houston Local School held the spelling bee on Wednesday, November 30th. The winner was 6th grader, Bryce Sauvie. The runner-ups were 6th grader, Grace Koenig and 8th grader Maddy Wills.

The Philip S. Abbot Junior Honor Society held their fall induction ceremony on Friday, November 4, 2016. Fall Sports Awards Program

Houston High School held the Fall Sports Awards Program on Tuesday, November 1st. Golf award winners were Tristin Stangel and Cameron Via with the Low Stroke Average, Cole Pitchford received the Most Improved Award and Bryan Funk was the Wildcat Award Winner. Volleyball award winners were Sarah Monnier with the Best Offensive Player Award, Olivia Bowser with the Best Defensive Player Award and the Wildcat Award. Cross country award winners for the boys team were Tristin Freistuhler as the Top Runner, Wesley Jester as Most Improved, and Devyn Ostrander with the Wildcat Award. Cross country award winners for the girls team were Morgan Ely as the Top Runner, Hollie Voisard as the Most Improved, and Allie Voisard with the Wildcat Award. Several cross country runners were also recognized for earning All League honors; they are Tristin Freistuhler and Hollie Voisard were 1st Team SCAL and Ethan Knouff, Parker Cox, Morgan Ely, and Allie Voisard were 2nd Team SCAL.

Congratulations Alyssa Kemp

Congratulations to Alyssa Kemp for breaking the Season Serve Percentage Record. Alyssa had a 99.0% Serve Percentage. The previous record of 98.2% was set by Jenna Mounts in 2015.

FFA Green House Dedication

On October 18th, Houston FFA Officers, FFA Advisor Derek McCracken, and Representatives from Cargill, Fertilizer Dealer Supplier, and Channel (a division of Monsanto) attended the dedication ceremony for the green house.
