Congratulations Corbin and Konner
A new contest that the chapter participated in this year is the Agricultural Power Diagnostics contest. This contest is geared towards those students who are mechanical in nature. For this particular contest, students work in teams of two and rotate around to five different stations. While at these stations, teams are presented with a piece of agricultural equipment ranging from a compact tractor, zero turn mower and larger size tractors; sometimes there might even be a skid loader or small excavator. Students are presented with a customer complaint about the equipment so students have to work together to verify the problems and fix the problems within a set amount of time. There are only two problems that students have to find while also looking out for any safety issues like a loose or missing lug nut or missing SMV sign.
Students from Houston who participated this year included freshman Corbin Dulin and sophomore Konner Pleiman. These two gentlemen did a great job and placed 7th out of 23 teams at the district level!

Rotten Apples
Houston High School under the direction of Mrs. York presents “Rotten Apples” on February 28th and March 1st at 7:00 PM in the commons. Tickets are $5. A group of villains—including the Evil Queen, Wicked Stepmother, and the Big Bad Wolf – and some familiar faces with dubious morals – like Little Red Riding Hood and Pinocchio – are locked in a mansion on a dark and stormy night. Their only means of escape is helping Prince Charming figure out the name of a mischievous imp who has his eyes set on a gasp-inducing treasure. As they begin to unravel the mystery before the midnight deadline, the storm knocks out the power in the mansion, and in a twist, some of the guests get knocked out, too. Will anyone be left to crack the riddle of the imp’s name and escape? Or will a parade of surprise guests only make matters worse as even more beloved characters become victims to the unknown assailant? With three endings to choose from, the mystery is yours to solve!

Congratulations Malaiya Gross
At the end of January, Malaiya Gross, a junior at Houston, competed in the FFA county public speaking contest held at Upper Valley Career Center. Malaiya competed in the Extemporaneous category.
In the Extemporaneous contest, participants draw a speech topic and have thirty minutes to research and prepare a four to six minute speech. After researching and preparing, participants then present their speech to a panel of judges where they are timed to make sure the time requirement is met and asked questions about the speech.
Malaiya placed first at the county contest which gave her the ability to compete at the district level contest on February 6th at Eaton High School.
The results came in and Malaiya found out that she placed 2nd! This gave her the placing that she needs to now compete at the State level in March! After finding out the results Gross stated, “This is something that I have worked for since I was a freshman.” Malaiya has competed in this category since her freshman year. Way to go Malaiya and best of luck at State!
