    Spring Sports Awards Program

    Houston High School held the Spring Sports Awards Program on Tuesday, May 26th. Baseball award winners were Grant Cole with the Best Offensive Player Award, Luke Crim with the Best Defensive Player Award, and Joseph Mohler with the Wildcat Award. Softball award winners were Madison Plunkett with the Best Offensive Player Award, Makenna Vondenhuevel with the Best Defensive Player Award and Marissa McDermit with the Wildcat Award. Boys track award winners were Trenton Hartings with Most Points Track, Malachi Sano with Most Points Field, and Jacob Huber with the Wildcat Award. Girls track award winners were Autumn Ritter with Most Points Track, Bera Sliter with Most Points field and Zoey Kinsella with the Wildcat Award.

    Several athletes were recognized for earning other awards and honors. In baseball, Luke Crim received 2nd Team All SCAL and both Grant Cole and Joey Leist received Honorable Mention All SCAL. Luke also received Special Mention MVBCA DIV All Area honors. In softball, Madison Plunkett, Olivia Maier, and Makenna Vondenhuevel all received 1st Team All SCAL and Marissa McDermit received 2nd Team All SCAL. Madison received 2nd Team and Makenna received Honorable Mention All Southwest District DVI. In boys track, Malachi Sano received 1st Team All SCAL in Discus, Weston Hoover received 2nd Team All SCAL in High Jump, and Jackie Earl received 2nd Team All SCAL in Pole Vault. In girls track, Autumn Ritter received 1st Team All SCAL in both the 100m dash and 200m dash, Ava Mowery received 2nd Team All SCAL in the 800m run, and Bera Sliter received 2nd Team All SCAL in High Jump. The varsity softball team was recognized for being District Runner-Ups.

    Congratulations Makenna Vondenhuevel

    Congratulations to Makenna Vondenhuevel for breaking the Career Strikeouts Record by collecting her 591st strikeout during the game at Anna on Monday, April 6th. Makenna finished the season with 755 strikeouts. The previous record of 590 strikeouts was set by Franny Spangler from 2002-2005.

    Regional Track Meet Info

    Members of both the varsity boys and girls track teams will take part in their respective Regional Meets at Southeastern High School in Chillicothe. The girls will compete in the DIV meet on Wednesday May 27th and Friday May 29th. Field events will start at 4:30 PM and the running events will begin at 6:00 PM on both days. Athletes competing on Wednesday with events in parentheses are Autumn Ritter (100m dash and 200m dash). The boys will compete in the DV meet on Thursday May 28th and Saturday May 30th. Field events start at 4:30 PM on Thursday and 11:00 AM on Saturday while running events start at 6:00 PM on Thursday and 12:30 PM on Saturday. Athletes competing on Thursday with events in parentheses are Malachi Sano (discus) and Jackie Earl (pole vault). Athletes competing on Saturday with events in parentheses are Malachi Sano (shot put). All athletes in running events must qualify for the finals on the second day of their meet. Tickets for each day of competition are $12 general admission and $5 for students and must be purchased online.
